The best shooting glasses for large heads: five frames that are cut big, with the numbers where the maker prints them
On a big head a one-size frame pinches at the temples, rides high on the nose and leaves the outer edge of the eye uncovered. These five are sold in a Large, built for large faces, or simply wide enough.

The pinch test
- Temples bow outward and press behind the ears after ten minutes: the frame is too narrow.
- The lens sits high on the bridge and there is a gap at the cheek: the frame is too short for your face.
- You can see the frame's outer edge in your peripheral vision, or the lens ends before your eye socket does: the lens is too narrow.
A pinched frame gets pushed up onto the hat between strings, and a frame that ends before the eye socket leaves the side of the eye to whatever comes from the next lane. Coverage is the rating in practice; the principle is on the Fit & Youth section.
Frames sold in a Large
Two makers on this site sell a size rather than a shape. Wiley X offers the Gravity in "Medium and Large" and rates it MIL-PRF-32432A; the gasket seals the gap a wide face opens at the cheek, and the T-docking strap holds it on a big head in wind. Revision prints the Sawfly's Large: 157 mm wide, 58 mm tall, 180 mm long — 13 mm wider and 15 mm longer than its Regular — with clause-cited MIL-PRF-32432A and an Rx carrier. If your head is large enough that universal frames pinch, these two are where to start.
Frames that are simply wide
The Magpul Defiant is one size, but Magpul says which size: medium-to-large, with rubber temple pads and a temple shaped for muffs. The Saber Advanced's 138 mm lens is the widest on any kit frame we cover, and its 50 mm height with a foam brow suits a tall face. The Pyramex OTS is a shield built to clear street frames up to 137 mm wide, which makes it, incidentally, one of the largest rated shields you can buy for a bare face. None of these is labeled Large; all of them are.
Big heads and muffs
A large head takes more clamp from the same muff, so temple pressure is worse and a thin temple matters more. The Defiant's temple is built for it in writing; the Sawfly's extendable arms let you set the length so the ear tab sits behind the cup. The Gravity's temples are dual-injected rubber and not marketed for muffs. See best shooting glasses for ear muffs.

Do Wiley X glasses come in large sizes?

Why do my shooting glasses pinch behind my ears?
The frame is too narrow for your head, so the temples bow outward and press. A Large size or a frame built for larger faces fixes it; bending the temples does not.
