Indoors changes three things: the light is flat and artificial, the walls and the steel are close, and the brass from the lane beside you arrives from above. Rank for those and the list writes itself.

The light: clear or vermillion
Indoor ranges are lit by fluorescent tubes or LEDs, evenly and not very brightly, and the target is a black bull or a gray silhouette on white paper twenty-five yards down a tube. A clear lens is the default: it passes everything and it is what the makers put in every kit for this reason. Vermillion — a pink-red tint — is the one alternative with a stated purpose here: Howard Leight names it for "fluorescent/halogen indoor ranges", and it lifts contrast on a black target without cutting the little light you have. Yellow does a version of the same job on dim ranges. Smoke, gray and mirrors belong outside. The full matrix is on the indoor-range lens color guide.
The hazard: close, hard and from above
Outdoors, a ricochet has a berm to die in. Indoors it has a wall, a baffle and a steel target holder, and it is closer to you. That is the case for a ballistic tier inside — a maker-stated MIL-PRF-32432 pass is a fragment-simulator test at several times the ANSI energy, and spall off a hard surface is the fragment it simulates. Four of the six here state it (Crossbow, ICE, Saber Advanced, and the Genesis on its clear and amber lenses); the standards are compared on ANSI Z87.1 vs MIL-PRF-32432.
The other indoor hazard is hot brass from the lane beside you, which comes over the divider and down. That is a brow problem, not a lens problem: the Saber Advanced's foam insert, the Genesis's elastomer brow guard and the Crossbow's Tri-Tech wrap all close the gap above the lens. A frameless pair like the Intruder leaves it open, which is why it ranks as the spare and not the primary.
The fog: a warm bay and a full seal
Indoor bays are warm and still, and a foam brow seal traps the air your face heats. The pairs with a named anti-fog coating — ESS ClearZone FlowCoat on the Crossbow, Uvextreme with a ventilation channel on the Genesis — earn their place here. Plenty of sites say they shot every pair on the list. We didn't, and we say so. What we do instead: read the certification the maker actually publishes and repeat its wording ("meets", "certified", "tested to", "APEL"), check the lens system and the tints in the box, note whether the temples are described for ear muffs and whether an Rx route exists, and score every pick on a public rubric that weights protection first. Every figure links to where it came from; where the maker's page would not load we cite the retailer and say so. The standards themselves are explained on ANSI Z87.1 vs MIL-PRF-32432.
Scores are editorial judgments from that documented research, not test results. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.

Frequently asked
What color shooting glasses for an indoor range?
Clear first. Vermillion or yellow second for contrast on black targets under fluorescent light. Never smoke or mirrors indoors.
Do I need ballistic glasses at an indoor range?
Not required by most ranges, but indoor bays put hard walls and steel closer to you, and a MIL-PRF-32432 pair is tested against the kind of fragment a ricochet throws. It is the sensible upgrade indoors.
Why do my glasses fog at the indoor range?
Warm, still air and a brow seal. A named anti-fog coating and a ventilation channel are the fixes; a dual-pane goggle is the cure.
