The best anti-fog safety glasses: six frames whose makers name the coating
Almost every pair of safety glasses says anti-fog somewhere on the packaging. Only a handful of makers name the technology, say where it sits on the lens, and publish a claim you can hold them to.

Why lenses fog, in one paragraph
Fog is condensation. Warm, humid air — most of it exhaled or rising off your own face — meets a lens surface that is cooler than the dew point of that air, and water comes out of the air as droplets fine enough to scatter light. Nothing about the lens material causes it and nothing about polycarbonate prevents it. An anti-fog treatment works in one of two ways: it makes the surface hydrophilic so the water spreads into a thin transparent film instead of beading, or it stops the water reaching a cold surface at all. Everything else on this page follows from that one sentence.
Which is why the useful question is not "is it anti-fog" — nearly everything claims to be — but "what is the treatment, where is it, and what happens to it when I clean the lens". Only a handful of makers answer all three. Those are the six frames below.
The six, side by side
Quoted from the linked source for each cell. A dash means the figure is not published in the documents we cite. No maker in this category publishes a fog-resistance test result in seconds or in a lab standard, so no column here can be ranked numerically — which is exactly why the wording of each claim matters.
The four kinds of anti-fog claim
Sort every pair of safety glasses you will ever consider into one of these four, and the category stops being confusing.
1. Infused into the lens. Edge's Vapor Shield is the example on this list, and Edge is explicit that it is built in during manufacturing rather than applied afterwards. The practical claim is durability: there is no surface layer to wear through. It is the one construction that answers the real failure mode of anti-fog, which is not the first day but the fiftieth.
2. A named hard coat that also does fog. Pyramex H2MAX and Bolle Platinum both claim scratch and fog performance in one treatment. This is the sensible buy for anyone whose glasses get wiped ten times a shift, because the coating is designed to survive the wiping.
3. A named anti-fog coating plus airflow. Honeywell pairs Uvextreme with a ventilation channel on the Genesis Sharp-Shooter, and 3M lists anti-fog on the SecureFit's clear and gray lenses. Coating plus moving air is the approach that works best on a range or outdoors, where there is some air moving across the lens to begin with.
4. A quantified marketing claim. NoCry's "five times more fog-resistant" is the only number in this category that any maker here publishes. We print it as the claim it is — there is no published test behind it — but a maker willing to put a multiple in writing is at least committing to something, and the EyeArmor+ carries a limited lifetime warranty.
What none of these is: the word "anti-fog" alone on a listing, with no technology named anywhere. In our reading of this category that wording predicts a wipe-on film that is gone inside a month.
When a coating cannot win
Some conditions beat every coating on the market, and in those conditions you want construction rather than chemistry: a dual-pane lens, where an outer polycarbonate lens takes the impact and an inner lens stays near skin temperature, with an insulating air gap between them. Pyramex builds the I-Force and the Capstone 500 that way — the Capstone 500 is listed with "polycarbonate lens on the outer side with an acetate anti-fog lens on the inner side".
You need that if you are working in genuine cold, wearing a half-mask respirator that vents warm air upward, or moving repeatedly between a freezer and a warm room. The sealed-goggle field is ranked on best anti-fog safety goggles; the trade is heat, bulk and a strap. For everything short of that, a named coating on a well-vented frame is the lighter and better answer, and it is the reason this page exists separately from that one.
How people destroy their own anti-fog
Three habits, and they account for most of the "the anti-fog stopped working" complaints in this category.
Wiping a dry, dusty lens. Grit plus pressure equals a scratched coating, and a scratched anti-fog surface fogs in the scratches first. Rinse, then dry with something soft — the full method is on how to clean safety glasses.
Using the wrong cleaner. Solvents, ammonia-based glass cleaner and alcohol wipes all attack surface treatments. On a frame whose whole value is a coating, this is the fastest way to turn a premium lens into a basic one.
Buying a tint to fix a fog problem. Tint has no effect on condensation whatsoever. If a lens fogs, the answer is the coating, the ventilation or the construction — never the color. The tint decision is a separate one, made on light conditions, on the lens color guide.

Best anti-fog overall
Edge Hamel
Edge describes Vapor Shield as infused into the lens during manufacturing rather than applied on top, which is the only construction claim here that explains why a coating would outlast a wipe-on. The frame also states ANSI Z87.1+ and MIL-PRF 32432-A.

What the spec page supports
- MIL-PRF 32432-A and Z87.1+ both stated by the maker, with MCEPS GL-PD 10-12 on the retailer listing
- A polarized lens and a photochromic lens for the same ballistic frame — almost nobody offers both
- Vapor Shield anti-fog is infused into the lens, not wiped onto it, and Edge says so plainly
- 140 mm thin temples: cut for a muff cup and a helmet, which is the whole point of the model
Where it falls short
- Availability is the weak point: several frame and lens combinations showed unavailable on Edge's own store on 2026-09-26
- Lenses are separate SKUs — the polarized or photochromic version is a buying decision, not a box of spares
- Weight is not published, and there is no documented Rx insert

Fit does more for fog than any coating
A frame that sits flat against your brow traps a pocket of warm, saturated air with nowhere to go. A frame that stands slightly off the face, or has a vented brow, lets that air escape and never reaches the dew point. This is why the Genesis has a ventilation channel and why the cheapest frameless wraparounds often fog less than expensive gasketed ones. Before you buy a coating, check whether your current pair is simply sealed too tightly — and if you wear it under ear muffs, the temple geometry matters too, as covered on best shooting glasses for ear muffs.
Do not trade the rating for the coating
Everything on this list states ANSI Z87.1 at minimum and four state the high-impact plus; two also state a military ballistic pass. That ordering is deliberate — a lens that never fogs and does not hold up to an impact is not eye protection. If you are deciding between a frame with a great coating and a weaker rating and the reverse, take the rating and manage the fog. What the markings mean is on what does Z87+ mean.
How Lens & Lead rates eyewear
How these picks were chosen
Every pair here is picked from the certification its maker publishes and repeats in its own wording ("meets", "certified", "tested to", "APEL"), the lens system and the tints in the box, whether the temples are described for ear muffs, and whether an Rx route exists — then scored on a public rubric that weights protection first. Every figure links to the page it came from, so you can confirm the protection before you buy. The standards themselves are explained on ANSI Z87.1 vs MIL-PRF-32432.
Scores are editorial judgments from that documented research, and the rating, the lens system and the fit are what move a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.

Questions
Frequently asked
What are the best anti-fog safety glasses?
The Edge Hamel, because Edge states its Vapor Shield anti-fog is infused into the lens during manufacturing rather than applied on top — the only durability claim in this category with a mechanism behind it. For a pair that gets cleaned constantly, the Pyramex Cappture Pro with H2MAX is the better choice.
Does anti-fog coating on safety glasses wear off?
A topical coating does, and cleaning is what removes it. That is why the claims worth paying for are the ones that either build the treatment into the lens (Edge Vapor Shield) or pair it with abrasion resistance (Pyramex H2MAX, Bolle Platinum).
Why do my safety glasses still fog with an anti-fog lens?
Usually one of three reasons: the coating has been cleaned off, the frame sits flat to your brow and traps exhaled air, or the conditions are beyond what any coating handles — real cold, or a respirator venting warm air upward. The last case needs a dual-pane goggle, not a different coating.
Do anti-fog wipes and sprays work on safety glasses?
They work, briefly, and they are a reasonable field fix. They are not a substitute for a lens treatment, and on a lens that already has a factory coating an aftermarket product can interact badly with it. Check the maker's guidance for your frame before applying anything.
